I am constantly thankful for life, and for a voice, and for the fact that I get to speak and write my heart out. Grateful for family and for friends, because they truly keep me sane! Grateful for a profession that keeps me on a path where I can help heal.
Growing up, I went through multiple ‘life plans‘.
One day, I wanted to be a mechanic, (but I decided being covered in grease and grime all day was not for me) the next I wanted to be the first scientist to discover the cure for HIV (and then I realised the lab life may not necessarily be for me?). Another time, I wanted to be the housewife of a rich man (Because Medicine was becoming overwhelming… but sitting at home all day really could never be me!) I even had a bout of wanting to be ‘a baby girl for life!’ Which translated to being paid to really just travel the world, eat good food, sleep, write, and basically just have fun! (If I’m being honest, that is still part of the plan LOL!)
Becoming the person I am today… the person I’m still becoming daily, through the grace of God, was not exactly the straight route I envisioned when I was younger. It’s come with a lot of work, a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, and a lot of laughter! A lot of late nights and early mornings, and also a lot of ‘sleep-ins’
I failed, changed plans, made detours, taken breaks, re-decided, and sometimes even given up!
But here we are! Living life, making it work!
I am a medical doctor and hopeful author, married to Albert the love of my life! We have a beautiful dog, called Nala, (She’s a lovely St. Bernard who probably assumes I’m just a visitor in her life, thanks to work. Lol)
While I’m not there yet – ‘there’, being the place where I want to be… I’m embracing the journey, and making each day count. Some days are amazing, others… not so great! But the point is to find in every cloud, the silver lining that makes it worthwhile!
When the time comes, I’d like to be known as the lady who did all she could! Chased all her dreams, travelled the world, left lasting impressions on every life encountered, and changed lives in multiple positive ways!
And one day, I intend to get there!
